Professor Damian Tyler is a Professor of Physiological Metabolism at the University of Oxford and Director of MR Physics at the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research.
His research focuses on the development and application of advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (MRI/MRS) to investigate cardiac structure, function and metabolism in health and disease.
A particular focus of his work is hyperpolarized magnetic resonance, which enables real-time, non-invasive imaging of metabolic processes in the heart and has the potential to improve our understanding and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Professor Tyler was appointed Honorary Skou Professor at Aarhus University in 2019, in recognition of and to strengthen his collaborative research with the MR Research Centre at Aarhus University.
Professor Ferdia Gallagher is Professor of Translational Imaging at the University of Cambridge.
His research focuses on the development and clinical translation of advanced molecular and metabolic imaging techniques, particularly for the detection and characterisation of cancer.
His work combines techniques such as hyperpolarised carbon-13 MRI, deuterium metabolic imaging, MR spectroscopy and PET to investigate tumour metabolism non-invasively. A major aim of his research is to develop new imaging biomarkers that can enable earlier cancer detection, improve tumour characterisation and provide more precise assessment of treatment response.
